Counting Backwards

“Watch just about any Nickelodeon show from that era [90’s] and you’ll find that underground bands and an indie mentality are integral to their DNA. The network didn’t just hook viewers; it turned a generation of kids into record-buying, obscure, music-listening twentysomethings who have brought indie rock into the mainstream.”

Who would think that crappy/sell-out movies would have good taste in music nowadays. Vampire Weekend in those Twilight movies?  Sure, and they could even throw in Band of Horses in there (which they probably already did) if they want to. White Lies and Florence + The Machine on Jennifer’s Body? Sure, why not, its a Diablo Cody movie anyway. I don’t know if Nick implanted the minds of the children in the 90’s to eventually bring indie music out of the woodwork by listening to obscure music on The Adventures of Pete and Pete but it might have a bit of an influence. Although if you ask me, its probably The OC that truly gave these indie bands a lift into mainstream.
